Vintage Chanel Necklace and Suede Skirt | Helena of Brooklyn Blonde2e

I was browsing a few sites last night and stumbled on these boots from Stuart Weitzman. Oh my goodness. Over the knee BUT with an insanely comfortable heel. I'm not a huge fan of the 5050, but these. THESE!

This Amazon Prime commercial makes me cry every single time.

For those with children (or not), I'm bookmarking this post for the future.

With Halloween a little over a month away, I'm starting to think about costumes! I still can't get over Keiko's from two years ago.

Happy Friday! Hope you all have a wonderful weekend!

SKIRT (made by me, tutorial below -- similar here and here)  ||  SHIRT  ||  HEELS  ||  BAG  ||  SUNGLASSES ||  COCKTAIL RING

When I was prepping for Fashion Week earlier this month, I bought this faux suede fabric. I'd planned to only use it to make a dress (which I did here), but then I loved it so much I ended up making a skirt too.

I haven't made a tailored skirt in a long time, so it was a fun little challenge for me and I'm super happy with how it came out. I'll be sharing the tutorial at the end of this post!

Once the skirt was done, I chose a striped button up to wear with it, and then it was time for accessories. Since the look of a pencil skirt and button up is very sophisticated, I wanted to add a little bit of edge. So I picked up these studded stilettos at Zappos, and also this pretty little quilted crossbody bag with a chain strap. The studs and chain make the look a little less secretary ;)

Also, did you hear that Zappos just launched a reward program?? Now you get rewarded just for shopping! I'll be sharing more about it in the coming weeks, but you can check out details early right here.

When I was growing up, I felt like anything lace seemed so old lady. But lace has come back with a vengeance in the last few years and not only it is young and fresh, it's so feminine and intricate and adds such gorgeous detailing to any look.

I picked up this cream dress for Fashion Week and was instantly drawn to the gorgeous lace detailing. Unlike some lace dresses, this one is sturdy so I wasn't worried about ripping or damaging it when I was running around the city. I regretted not bringing a black ribbon to tie around the neck underneath the collar because I felt like that would have completed the look with the black bag and shoes, but I didn't think of it until I put it on, and by then it was too late.  But if you get it, wear it with a black ribbon and black accessories -- it will look so chic!

I rounded up a few more of my favorite lace dresses below. And don't be afraid of the white ones -- even though they might feel more summery, they're perfect for wearing in the fall and winter with a leather jacket, or dark accessories (like a burgundy lip or deep velvet pumps).

With fall here, I'm craving all all things earthy, camel and neutral. Here are some of the items that are currently on my wish list, two of which I maybeeeeee already purchased.

The absolute number one shoe essential for fall is a good pair of ankle boots. Besides the love affair that I'm currently having with sneakers, ankle boots are my go-to and my favorite style of shoe to wear...especially in the colder months. They're easier to wear than tall boots, they go with dresses, skirts, jeans, leggings, shorts...everything, and they come in so many fun styles.

One of the best places to find good ankle boots is Nordstrom Rack because they have designer styles but at discounted rates. And especially in the fall, they always have a killer selection of amazingly priced boots.

I've been buying boots from Nordstrom Rack for years, and just in the last couple of years I found out they have a full online store! With little kids and little time, I shop almost exclusively online, so I love that I can find the same great deals without having to haul my entire crew over there and try on shoes. I found this fun mule-style pair for almost 50% off, and I combed through pages and pages of ankle boots at Nordstrom Rack to find the best ones, and tons of them are half off the original price. If you're going to snag a pair for the season, grab one from here -- I'm loving this wedged pair, this fringe pair, and this super classic pair!

Motherhood comes with a lot of changes, and while most of them are amazing and wonderful, there are also a lot of changes that can make it feel like you'll just never be your old self again, that you have to have padded walls and plastic everything in your house, and that you'll never have time to do your hair or makeup ever again.

That's why I love baby products that are functional and well-designed, but they don't scream that you have small children. I teamed up with Munchkin today to check out their new Luna baby gate, and I was instantly impressed. It was super quick and easy to install (just a little turnkey that adjusts the width), it comes with add-ons to make it super wide (hallelujah, I've been looking for an extra wide baby gate for years!), the gate opens either way, and it even has a motion detector light at the base for night time. It gives all the function without being another cluttery, bulky baby essential.

I try to make an effort to keep my home beautiful on top of having babies, so I love that this gate allows me to do both.

And inspired by the Luna baby gate, these are three other things I do to not completely lose myself in motherhood:

1. Make time for me. With little kids, it's easy to let some things fall by the side, like getting ready for the day, or reading a book just for you, or taking a trip without kids. It's definitely more of an effort to do these things, but when you make the time for yourself so you feel like a real, functioning adult, you're such a much better mom.

2. Find momiform wardrobe pieces that make you feel like an adult. There are times when I just want to wear sweats and a tee, but it's important to have a few pieces in your closet that are mom friendly but make you feel put together. Like a stretchy dress (like this one that's easy to move in, but super flattering), a great pair of jeansa nice button up shirt, or a cute pair of ankle boots instead of flip flops. They're easy things to buy that make a big difference in how you look and feel, and they're just as easy to throw on as sweats.

3.  Get out of the house without the kids. Whether it's date night, girls night, or just hiring a babysitter for an hour so you can get out and take a walk or go to the grocery store by yourself, it's important to get out of the house. I'm a total homebody, but being home all day every day, day after day, can mess with your mental health as a mom. Don't forget to get outside and interact with other adults on an adult level!

There was basically nothing bad about New York Fashion Week. It was such a dream and I had so much fun. BUT after three days of wearing heels the entire day, my feet were done -- I had so many bandaids on my feet and every part of my foot just ached. I have zero trouble going to sleep at night, but I laid there in bed on our last night (knowing I had to get up at 3am for our flight the next day) and couldn't sleep because my poor feet were throbbing!

So on day three, I was feeling super grateful for these sneakers. I was planning to wear this white lace top with this skirt and these heels, but I went with the sneakers for a more comfortable and casual look.

Metallic sneakers are huge for fall and I love the little bit of glam they add to an outfit. I'm excited to wear them with plaid, all black, boyfriend jeans, or just with skinny jeans and a white tee!
