I've never been much of a maxi dress kind of girl. There are a lot of pretty ones out there, but none of them ever felt like me. I would try them on, and I always felt so...covered in fabric.
But as soon as I saw this one from Modcloth, I instantly fell in love. The lightweight fabric is flowy and feminine, the fitted waist is super flattering, the deep V and arm slits allow for a little more skin to show when everything else is all covered up (I just wore a nude cami underneath -- try it, don't do black or white), and it's really, really comfortable.
Also dark floral is huge for fall, so that helped seal the deal for me.
When you're wearing a long dress like this, especially one with no leg showing from a slit or something, it's best to wear a pair of open toed shoes so you get a little skin at the bottom. It helps the outfit feel less heavy. I paired it with these gorgeous dark burgundy scalloped heels and I love how it all came together. And I'll be finding every possible opportunity to wear these heels all throughout fall cause they're so darn gorgeous.
